The crew we book checks the cleaning code on the fabric tag before starting. A W code means water based cleaning is fine, S means solvent only, WS allows either, and X means vacuum only. They test a small out of sight area for colour run and shrinkage, then give the piece a slow, detailed vacuum to lift crumbs and hair from the seams. Marks are pre-treated, and the fabric is cleaned with a low moisture upholstery tool so the padding does not get soaked. Removable cushion covers stay on the foam during the clean, since machine washing them separately can shrink the fabric so it no longer fits.
